trail (n) – path or track (usually with a mark left by something)

trail (v) – to go after with (something/someone), to chase

Examples:

1. The trail of footsteps led them back to the house.
2. The teacher trails her students and watches them carefully.
3. The police officers are still trailing the suspect.
